Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Or, three bars Gules, issuant from base and extending through chief a pheon Azure charged with a dagger handle extending below the point base metal.  Overall in honor point a golpe environed by twelve points alternating Argent and Purpure.  The shield is supported by two wings of the second.

Symbolism
The yellow shield signifies the four virtues of nobleness, goodwill, vigor, and magnanimity.  The pheon recalls the Second Field Force distinctive unit insignia, with the red bars indicating Vietnam service.  Blue signifies constancy, justice, sincerity, thinking, and truth.  Red signifies valiance.  The purple and white star indicates the branch colors with the twelve points symbolizing the number of Vietnam campaigns the unit participated in.  Purple signifies loyalty and patience.  White or silver signifies the five virtues of humility, beauty, purity, clarity, and innocence.  The dagger is taken from Special Operations Command.  The red wings represent airborne.

Crest

From a wreath of the colors Argent and Purpure a depiction of a Pagoda with Argent (Silver Gray) brick and mortar pillars, the central arch plastered Or with roof tiles Gules and Vert.

Purple and white are the branch colors.  Purple signifies loyalty and patience.  White or silver signifies the five virtues of humility, beauty, purity, clarity, and innocence.  The gyronny of twelve indicates the Vietnam campaigns the unit participated in.  The red wings indicate airborne.  Red signifies valiance.  The yellow shield signifies the four virtues of nobleness, goodwill, vigor, and magnanimity; and with the red bars signify Vietnam service.  The pheon represents power and strength and is borrowed from the Second Field Force patch.  Blue signifies constancy, justice, sincerity, thinking, and truth.  The dagger is taken from Special Operations Command.
